iWeb saved my bacon — turkey bacon, of course

I was in a pinch and needed my web site to go live ASAP. Having a design and marketing communications background, I knew what I wanted, but, not being a web developer, I was struggling with the balance between my timeline and my knowhow. My husband pointed out that we have iWeb on our Macs. Of course, I was suspicious at first. How can something so simple help me create something great. Because, anything less than great was unacceptable.

Well, I opened the program, watched the 20 minute tutorial and started to get excited.

That was Saturday morning. It is now Sunday evening, and my¬†site is live. There are many more things I need to do to perfect it, and it will be an ongoing project that I will love because I can use my marketing experience without worrying about my lack of development experience to grow my business online. I’ll still hire web developers to do great work on parts of my site that iWeb can’t do. But if you have a small business and want to have a simple start to building and publishing a website, then I recommend iWeb as a program to consider.

Marketing copy. Not just for you and your mother.

When I am helping a client with their marketing copy, we occaisionally get stuck in a cycle of deliberating small phrases that are written in very long dissertations that extoll the wonders of a product or service. Our intent is always a good one. Let’s make sure the client really understands what we have and why we are so great.
But, a reality check always brings me back to my favorite comment I coined to these situations.

“Nobody cares about what you have to say about yourself as much as you or your mother do.”

When I remember those words, we get back on track to the important issue…The Customer!
Speak to the needs of your customer and save the diatribes for your mom, who will treasure every word you say as much as she loves that clay ashtray you made for her in 3rd grade, even though she doesn’t smoke!
